Wolverhampton vs Liverpool
The last match of the FA Cup 3rd round is clash between two Premier League teams where Liverpool is far more successful as it occupies the leading position despite suffering the first league defeat in the previous round by Manchester City, the 2nd placed team. Being newly promoted to the Premier League Wolverhampton can be more than satisfied with its current ninth place in the table. They were too defeated in the previous league match and won just once in previous four rounds. The two teams met recently in the league and Liverpool won away by 2-0.
Wolverhampton had several weak periods in the first part of season but overall they should be more than satisfied. They are positioned in the upper part of table with score of eight wins and eight losses. The Wolves play equally good at home and away, but it can be noticed that somehow it plays much better against stronger rivals as out of best English teams only Liverpool and Tottenham managed to win them, although they revenged to Tottenham at the Wembly two rounds ago.
They won Chelsea and drew with Manchester City, Manchester Union and Arsenal, so it is no wonder that the Wolves are so highly positioned although they unexpectedly lost some matches like one in the previous round when Crystal Palace defeated them at home 2-0. Only a couple of days after great match and victory over Tottenham they underperformed and lost after two goals received in the finish of match. There were several changes in the team and now they will be even more, given this is the Cup match.
Probable lineups Wolverhampton: Ruddy – Bennett, Coady, Dendoncker – Doherty, Neves, Moutinho, Vinagre – Gibbs-White – Bonatini, Traore
Liverpool fans were aware that their team cannot stay undefeated by the end of season and the defeat came in the previous round when they faced Manchester City away. They fought well till the very end perhaps a draw would be a fair result but the home team won by 2-1 and right now it has just four points fewer than Liverpool. Regardless of the setback Liverpool deserves congratulation for 20-game unbeaten streak in the league, while in the Champions League they lost three out of six played matches.
Now, they journey in the FA Cup start, where their ambition is to win the title although the league if far more important, just like the Champions League. All changes that manager Klopp made took place in the midfield. Defensive four stays the same, just like offensive trio. Unlike match with Arsenal which they outclassed by 5-1, Henderson and Milner were on the pitch in Manchester. Now, there will be more changes starting with goalkeeper Alisso who will get a break, just like Winjnaldum, and forwards Salah and Frimino.
Probable lineups Liverpool: Mignolet – Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, van Dijk, Robertson – Fabinho, Milner, Keita – Shaqiri, S. Mane, Sturridge
Wolverhampton did nicely this season and was especially good against stronger team but it will not play with the strongest team in the Cup, just like Liverpool but the guests have wider choice of high quality players and they are good enough to win the Wolves.
